My soul was ready again for adventure, so I packed up the SUV and headed to two places I’ve had my eyes on for a while: Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia.

I have always had a fascination with history. Before reality TV shows, there were actual shows that detailed historical events that were eye-opening – things you didn’t learn about in school – especially here in Oklahoma.
My travel companion and I decided a month or two ago that we were ready for our next adventure, so we came up with three locations: Sedona, Arizona, Charleston, and Savannah.
My travel companion argued that we could see two cities in one trip, which sold me!
A few weeks later, we packed up the truck and hit the road. First stop, Nashville, Tennessee!
DAY 1
We set out for Charleston but decided to stop in Nashville for the night and complete the first leg of our trip the following day.

We kept ourselves pretty occupied on the 9-hour road trip, which is a must, so you don’t drive each other crazy or bore each other.
But Mother Nature has a way of keeping you occupied when you least expect it. As we pulled into Nashville, we got a ‘Tornado Warning’ notification, which was fun for me (being from Oklahoma) and not so fun for my travel companion.
We made it safely to our home away from home and slept – hard.
DAY 2
HELLLLLLO, Charleston! You are cute!!

We pulled into our charming hotel, which was right on the water. The weather was cold and rainy, which was unfortunate, but we didn’t let that stop us!
I was in charge of finding us a great place to eat, so I turned to #Yelp and looked at the suggestions we received before hitting the head out of town.
The one restaurant friends told us to try was Husk, but they were not taking any reservations, so I picked the place next door – Poogan’s Porch.
The restaurant was named after a dog that had shown up on their porch and never left—# RIPPoogan.
I ordered the salmon special, and my travel companion had the BBQ Mahi Mahi, which was served with a BBQ reduction and mustard seed sauce.

Let me start by saying that the food was magnificent, but the sauce for the BBQ Mahi Mahi threw the whole dish off. We asked to speak to the chef, who was super kind, and we suggested removing the mustard sauce.
Well, I can tell you that as of March 14, 2021, the mustard sauce has been removed from the menu! #Blessed
After we left the restaurant, which you should eat at, we walked around downtown, and it was beautiful.

The streets were quiet, and it was like we had the entire place to ourselves – it was magical.

DAY 3
We headed out for our first full day in Charleston, and our first stop was at Alkyon Art and Antiques.
We walked into this fun antique store, and the sweetest Goldendoodle, Sally, immediately greeted us.
Now, I would prefer hanging out with animals over most people, and I feel Sally, and I connected while we were there (picture proves it, amirite?)

The shop owner recommended we head across the street to eat at Harken Café, and boy is I am excited we took his suggestion!
This place was TERRIFIC. The food was either vegan or plant-based, and I am in LOVE with this concept.
We ordered the salad trio, a vanilla latte, and since I have a sweet tooth, we also split a brownie and a few other treats, and we got back into the truck and started exploring.
We made our way to the Ft. Sumter National Museum, which is a must-see when you’re in Charleston.
We walked around downtown again, finding our way to the Circular Church. Their graveyard is the oldest burial ground in Charleston, so it was worth checking out and paying our respects.
We also checked out the Unitarian Church, and the site was serene.

For dinner, we ate at Basic Kitchen. My travel companion and I are massively big into mocktails, so we both ordered and were served with the most delectable liquid goodness. The food was excellent, and our waitress was a peach!

We headed back to our room, played Cribbage (which I lost miserably), and crashed.
DAY 4-7
Charleston, you were charming, but we got plans in Savannah!
On the way out of town, we stopped off at #MorrisIsland to explore the abandoned lighthouse – I highly recommend stopping by!

We hopped back into the car and drove almost two hours west to our next destination.
And I must say, pulling up to our hotel, in this town, I was giddy!
We stayed at The Cotton Sail, and the staff was friendly and helpful!

We stayed three nights in Savannah, and we made it out to some cool spots, which included Bonaventure Cemetery, Tybee Island, and Chippewa Square (where scenes from “Forrest Gump” were filmed.
For food, Yelp has been my lucky charm! I found us a cute vegan place for lunch, Fox & Fig (the food was spectacular), which we enjoyed in one of the squares.

For dinner, since The Olde Pink House and The Grey were booked, we ate at a.Lure (great food and friendly staff), and Charter House (great steak), and The Crab Shack (delicious food and the view was terrific).

For breakfast, we ate at Little Duck Diner (food was not that great, but the staff was friendly). We went to Starbucks for our morning coffees since it was located right across our hotel street.

Overall, the trip was amazing and a week was not long enough to explore. I will be back to visit both of these spectacular places!
